The Governorate of Mahdia is distinguished by its agricultural vocation based essentially on the production of olive oil, which represents the largest organic olive-growing area of Tunisia, arboreal production (almonds, apricots, pistachios ...) as well as irrigated crops and cattle breeding.

The fishing activity also remains an important activity in the region, aquaculture and the fattening of bluefin tuna represent the specific activities of the governorate.
