POTENTIALITES


Infrastructure very favorable to investment :

The Infrastructure was developed and diversified to be in tune with the manufacturing companies needs and the Tunisian and foreign Promoters expectations. It is distinguished by:

  • Industrial zones offering many facilities: Currently, 15 industrial zones are arranged, covering a surface of 400 hectares and having all necessary facilities to ensure an environment propitious and favourable to the good working of industrial enterprises.

  • The setting up of two technological poles in Sousse and Monastir aiming at stimulating the synergy between Industry and research and facilitating the innovating projects.
    Covering a surface of 160 hectares, these techno poles are specialized respectively in mechanics, electronics, nanotechnology, and textile.

  • A transportation system composed of a varied transportation network (road, railway, aerial and maritime)

    The region has an international airport in Monastir and a commercial port in Sousse. It is joined to the capital and to the other agglomerations by a very dense railway and rood network (Tunis-Motorway-Sousse-Monastir-Mahdia-Metro).

  • An important telecommunication infrastructure amply satisfying the needs of the region. (completely memorized  network, stationary and mobile networks)

Effective industrial Fabric :

The industrial fabric of the region of the center has 1.483 enterprises  (employing 10 people and more) which represents 28% of the total Tunisian industrial fabric.

The completely exporting system has a special rank with regards to enterprises number and employment.(848 enterprises employing 84.415)

The sector of textile and clothing industry is currently the first industrial field. It has 928 units which represents 43% of the total number of the Tunisian enterprises operating in this sector. Its production is almost totally intended for exportation.

This sector is enjoying a remarkable expansion thanks to a qualified labour force and to an important rework of training institutes of senior technicians and engineers.

The mechanical, metallurgic and electronic sector, which currently has a special rank in the industrial fabric, has 120 units representing 16 % of the total number of enterprises on a national scale.

We note the existence of 40 completely exporting units.  Many foreign enterprises specialized in the manufacture of bundles of electronic cables and plastic technical parts for the car industry (Mercedes BMW...), subcontract part of their production in the region.

The sector of food- processing industry has a privileged place in the region of the centre.

One of the most important activities of this sector,we mention the flour-milling and semolina industries which represent 17 % of the total national production. This activity has 3 units on a regional scale.

Diversified Agricultural Vocation :

The region of the center is known for its agricultural vocation thanks to its vast olive groves and its traditional market-gardening exploitations.

Olive growing ranks first with regards to the agricultural surface of the region.
Important quantities of oil are exported to the European Union (Italy – Spain – France)
The market-growing culture is also very developed.It has an important contribution to the national production.

The fishing sector is characterized by the existence of 11 fishing ports in the whole region of the center. This represents 1/3 of the total number of the national fishing ports.

Several units of fish freezing and packaging are set up in the region of the center. This was stimulated by a coast of 120 km where the most important fish farming is set up.

Tourist Zone Par Excellence  :

During the last four decades, tourism has been confirming its stimulating role of both economy and development. This gives tourism a strategic character in the development of the region of the center.

The region of the center is ranked first tourist pole in Tunisia. It has 202 hotels which represent 25% of the total number of hotels on a national scale. During the year 2003, about a million and a half tourists visited the region.

The region has two marinas (Port El Kantaoui in Sousse, The Marina in Monastir) and several animation and leisure activities centers (casino, golf courses, tourist restaurants…)

Qualified Human Resources :

A generalized schooling, an important network of academic establishments and vocational training are representatives of a high-level qualification and competitiveness.

The high establishment network enjoys a continuous growth and an important diversification. It covers a wide range of specialities (scientific, medical and technological.)

The region of the center has 34 high establishments currently welcoming 62,479 students.

The region of center has equally an important number of vocational training centers (private and public) in different specialities such as textile and clothing, hotel management, the plastic industry…
